More Than Meets the A1c: Maximizing Cardiovascular and Renal Benefits of Diabetes Medications


Learning Objectives:

  • Review cardiovascular and renal benefits of sodium-glucose co-transporter 2 inhibitors and glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor agonists. 
  • Select appropriate diabetes medication based on patient-specific characteristics.
  • Discuss strategies on how to optimize diabetes care in clinical practice.

Hannah Poppen, PharmD

Hannah Poppen received her Doctor of Pharmacy degree from South Dakota State University in Brookings, SD followed by subsequent PGY1 residency training at the Sioux Falls Veterans Affairs Health Care System.

Dr. Poppen is a current PGY2 Ambulatory Care Pharmacy Resident at Mayo Clinic Health System in Mankato. Her practice interest areas include cardiology, diabetes, and psychiatry.
