A Review of the Virginia Prescription Monitoring Program


Learning Objectives

Following the completion of this lecture, the participant will be able to:

  1. Review the history of the development, initiation, and utilization of the Prescription Monitoring Program in Virginia
  2. Explain the goals of the Prescription Monitoring Program
  3. Evaluate data obtained from the Prescription Monitoring Program with regard to patient’s prescribing history
  4. Demonstrate how to use the Prescription Monitoring Program as a resource in patient-centered care
  5. Access tools to monitor own prescribing practices

Ashley Carter, MPH

Ashley Carter has worked with Virginia’s Prescription Monitoring Program since 2018. Initially she focused primarily on developing the program’s analytic capacity and assumed the role as program director last year. Prior to joining the PMP, she worked as an at the Virginia Department of Health. Ashley earned her Master's in Public Health in Epidemiology from Virginia Commonwealth University and Bachelors of Science in Neuroscience from The College of William & Mary.
