Sports Medicine


The following are the learning objectives of the presentation:

  • Describe common Pediatric Apophyseal Injuries and their treatment
  • Define the most common cause of Sudden Cardiac Arrest in the young athlete
  • Describe common Low Back Injuries in the young athlete

 

Accreditation Statement:

KAOM is an accredited sponsor by the American Osteopathic Association for osteopathic continuing medical education for physicians. KAOM designates this program for a maximum of 1 AOA Category 1-A CME credits and will report CME and specialty credits commensurate with the physician’s participation.

Andrew Porter, DO, ABFM
Andrew Porter, DO, is a graduate of Des Moines University College of Osteopathic Medicine.  He completed his Family Medicine Residency and Sports Medicine Fellowship at Via Christi in Wichita Kansas. Dr. Porter then moved back to Iowa and practiced rural family medicine in Bloomfield, Iowa.  He also had the honor of serving in the United State Army as a field surgeon in Iraq during Operation Iraqi Freedom.  

Dr. Porter then accepted a position as Faculty for the KU School of Medicine-Wichita Family Medicine Residency and Sports Medicine Fellow at Via Christi. He is now the Director of Osteopathic Medical Education for core osteopathic medical students at Via Christi, a Clinical Associate Professor at KU- School of Medicine and is also the sports medicine fellowship program director.
