Balance & Falls in the Older Adult

Balance and Falls in the Older Adult- Peggy Trueblood, PT, PhD

Patient falls in older adults are one of the most common, costly, and harmful health events. This presentation will review the prevalence of falls in people with dizziness or balance impairments, describe common clinical manifestations/impairments that can affect the postural control system in persons with these impairments including those with aging; and describe key examination and common interventions for persons at risk for falls including fall risk assessments.   A review of normal postural control will be reviewed as a precursor to understand abnormal findings.
