Dermatology Lightning Round – Rashes & Skin Eruptions that would Stump a Primary Care Physician


Learning Objectives:

  • Approach dermatologic disorders with a consistenet and logical method
  • Characterize types of acne lesions and determine appropriate therapy based on pathophysiology
  • Diagnose and treat common cutaneous infections, recognizing indications for biopsy in certian infectious processes

Accreditation Statement: This activity has been planned and implemented in accordance with the accreditation requirements and policies of the American Osteopathic Association (AOA). The Ohio Osteopathic Foundation (OOF) is accredited by the American Osteopathic Association (AOA) to provide osteopathic continuing medical education for physicians.

Megan Jones-Sheets, DO, FAAD

Dr. Megan Jones-Sheets is a Board Certified Dermatologist who specializes in medical, surgical and cosmetic dermatology. Dr. Jones-Sheets received her medical degree from Ohio University Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine. She completed her dermatology residency at Lehigh Valley Health Network in Allentown, Pennsylvania, where she served as chief resident in her final year.

Jessica Hoy, DO, FAAD

Jessica Hoy, DO, FAAD is a board-certified dermatologist and dermatopathologist native to Columbus, Ohio. She obtained her Bachelor of Arts degree from Miami University in 2009. She then attended Ohio University where she received her Doctorate of Osteopathy in 2013 followed by a Traditional Rotating Internship at Botsford Hospital in Detroit, Michigan.

Dr. Hoy completed her dermatology residency at OhioHealth O’Bleness Hospital in 2017 where she served as chief resident, followed by a dermatopathology fellowship at Cleveland Clinic in 2018. She is passionate about teaching dermatology residents and students, serving as the OhioHealth Dermatology Residency program’s Director of Dermatopathology.

Frank Morocco Jr., DO, FAOCD

Dr. Frank Morocco Jr., DO, FAOCD, is a board-certified dermatologist in Marion, Ohio. He graduated from Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine. He completed his dermatology residency at O'Bleness Hospital in Athens, Ohio. 

He currently practices at Marion Area Physicians LLC and is affiliated with Marion General Hospital.

Dawn Sammons, DO, MEd, FAOCD, FAAD

Dr. Dawn Sammons, CEO and owner of Oakview Dermatology, is a Board Certified Dermatologist who specializes in cosmetic, surgical and general dermatology. Dr. Sammons is a 2003 graduate of Ohio University's College of Osteopathic Medicine and completed her dermatology residency with O’Bleness Memorial Hospital in June of 2008. Dr. Sammons opened her own practice after completing her dermatology residency and has since expanded it by six additional offices.

Shannon Trotter, DO, FAOCD, FAAD

Dr. Trotter earned a Bachelor's Degree in biology with a minor in psychology from the University of Dayton in Dayton, Ohio. She graduated medical school from Ohio University Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine in 2006. Following medical school, she completed a dermatology residency at O'Bleness Memorial Hospital where she served as chief resident. After residency, Dr. Trotter completed a fellowship in cutaneous oncology at Boston University and acted as Director of the Pigmented Lesion Clinic at the Ohio State University from 2011-2017. She is currently in private practice with Dermatologists of Central States and the Associate Program Director for the OhioHealth Dermatology Residency Program in Columbus, Ohio. Dr. Trotter is also an Assistant Clinical Professor at Ohio University Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine.

Stephanie Fabbro, MD, FAAD

Stephanie K. Fabbro, MD, FAAD, is a board-certified dermatologist in Grove City, Ohio, and currently practices at Buckeye Dermatology, Inc. She received her medical degree from Northeast Ohio Medical University. She completed her dermatology residency at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center in Columbus, Ohio, where she served as chief resident in her final year.

Angela S. Casey, MD, FAAD, is a board-certified Dermatologist and a fellowship trained Mohs Micrographic Skin Cancer surgeon. She is a Fellow of the American Academy of Dermatology and a fellow of the American Society of Dermatologic Surgery.
