Identification and Management of Ocular Emergencies
This lecture was presenting as part of the 2023 IOA Virtual Spring Update by Dr. Tiffany Szymarek.
Recognizing ocular emergencies in an outpatient setting can help patients with severe vision threatening conditions get prompt and appropriate management. It may also help cut down on visits to the ED for non-emergent eye conditions, which constitute almost half of all eye related ED visits.

Dr. Szymarek is a board-certified ophthalmologist practicing in Elkhart, Indiana. She specializes in general ophthalmology, glaucoma, and cataract surgery. She trained at the University of Michigan medical school, attended ophthalmology residency at the University of Florida, and completed a subspecialty glaucoma fellowship at the University of Michigan.
