Migraines Diagnosis and Treatment


Learning Objectives: 

At the conclusion of the lecture, the participants will be able to:

  • Identify the characteristic features of migraine including migraine subtypes.
  • Identify "red flag" features that might suggest a headache is symptomatic of another disease state.
  • List evidence-based acute treatment options for migraine.
  • List evidence-based preventive treatment options for migraine.

Derrick Shumate, D.O.

Derrick Shumate is a Board-Certified Neurologist and an Assistant Professor at the Medical College of Wisconsin.  He attended the West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine and completed his Residency at in Neurology at Froedtert Hospital and the Zablocki VA Medical Center in Milwaukee.  Dr. Shumate completed a Fellowship in Headache Medicine.
