Cardiogenic Shock
First presented as part of the WVOMA 2022 CME conference, we are pleased to offer this on-demand program as George Sokos, DO discusses Cardiogenic shock.
Following completion of this program, attendees shall be able to:
- Understand the pathophysiology and etiology of cardiogenic shock, including the mechanisms underlying impaired cardiac function and systemic perfusion, and recognize the clinical signs and symptoms associated with this critical condition.
- Review the current evidence-based guidelines and recommendations for the management of cardiogenic shock, including initial resuscitation measures, hemodynamic monitoring, pharmacological interventions, mechanical circulatory support options, and considerations for revascularization strategies.
- Discuss the importance of a multidisciplinary approach to the management of cardiogenic shock, including the roles of cardiologists, intensivists, cardiac surgeons, nurses, and other healthcare providers in coordinating care, optimizing outcomes, and facilitating early rehabilitation and recovery for patients with this life-threatening condition.

George Sokos
George G. Sokos, DO, FACC, “Congestive Heart Failure Update,” is medical director of advanced heart failure, mechanical circulatory support and cardiac transplant at West Virginia University Medicine in Morgantown. Board certified in internal medicine, cardiovascular disease, and advanced heart failure and transplant, he is also an associate professor of medicine at the West Virginia University School of Medicine. Dr. Sokos is a graduate of the West Virginia University School of Pharmacy and a 1999 graduate of the West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine in Lewisburg. He completed an internship at South Pointe Hospital in Cleveland, Ohio; an internal medicine residency and cardiology fellowship at Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; and a heart failure and cardiac transplant medicine fellowship at Cleveland Clinic in Cleveland, Ohio. A fellow of the American College of Cardiology, Dr. Sokos is a member of POMA, the American Osteopathic Association, the American College of Physicians, the Heart Failure Society of America, the International Society of Heart and Lung Transplantation, the American Heart Association and the American Medical Association.
