Supporting People with Dementia and their Caregivers


Learning Objectives:

  • Diagnose dementia and discuss the diagnosis with patients and caregivers.
  • Evaluate and treat behavioral and psychological symptoms of dementia.
  • Connect people with dementia and their families to community resources.

Julia Lubsen, M.D.

Dr. Julia Lubsen is an Assistant Professor (CHS) in the University of Wisconsin-Madison Department of Family Medicine and Community Health and the Director of Geriatric Education for the UW-Madison Family Medicine Residency Program. She also serves as Medical Director for the Four Winds Manor Nursing Home and for the Survey of the Health of Wisconsin.  Dr. Lubsen practices family medicine and teaches residents at the rural Belleville Family Medicine Clinic and at several nursing homes and assisted living facilities. Her academic interests include geriatrics education, advance care planning, dementia, caregiver support, nursing home care and palliative care.
