Emergency Medicine in an Austere Environment


First presented at the 2021 Virtual Osteopathic Conference, OPSO is pleased to offer this presentation as an on-demand CME seminar. 

In this presentation Derrick Sorweide, DO, will:

  • Define and know the challenges of an austere environment.
  • Know the MARCH pneumonic.
  • Know where a patient may be losing blood.
  • Know the steps of an eFASTscan.
  • Be familiar with the Military decision-making process.
  • Know the lethal triad of shock.
  • Be aware of the need for self-maintenance.
  • Have an understanding of items to have on hand and how to use them.
  • Know who NOT to do CPR on.

The Osteopathic Physicians and Surgeons of Oregon is accredited by the American Osteopathic Association to provide osteopathic continuing medical education for physicians and designates this program for a maximum of 1.0 AOA Category 1-A credits and will report CME and specialty credits commensurate with the extent of the physician's participation in this activity.
