First presented as part of the WVOMA 2022 CME conference, we are pleased to offer this on-demand program as Dorothy Van Oppen, MD discusses MOUD and Concomitant Use of Prescribed and Unprescribed Substances in the Comprehensive Treatment of the Recovering Patient .

Following completion of this program, attendees shall be able to:

1. Understand the principles of Medications for Opioid Use Disorder (MOUD) in the context of comprehensive treatment for individuals with substance use disorders, including the roles of medications such as methadone, buprenorphine, and naltrexone in reducing opioid cravings and preventing relapse.
2. Identify the challenges and implications of concomitant use of prescribed and unprescribed substances (polydrug use) among patients receiving MOUD, including potential interactions, increased risk of overdose, and barriers to engagement and retention in treatment.
3. Discuss evidence-based strategies for addressing the complex needs of patients with concomitant substance use disorders and MOUD, including integrated care models, harm reduction approaches, motivational interviewing techniques, and collaborative decision-making processes to optimize treatment outcomes and promote long-term recovery.
