Understanding Antenatal and Postpartum Depression


Learning Objectives:

Following completion of this program, attendees shall be able to:

1. Identifying differentials for depression in patients who are assigned female at birth and use of inclusive language for pregnant patients.
2. Identify screening guidelines and discuss the importance of screening with pregnant and postpartum patients.
3. Discuss common concerns and misconceptions for treatment guidelines of antenatal and postpartum depression.

The South Carolina Osteopathic Medical Society designates this program for a maximum number of 0.75 AOA Category 1-A credits and will report CME and specialty credits commensurate with the extent of the physician's participation in this activity.

Dr. Christy N. Blevins, D.O., Adult Inpatient Psychiatry, Northern Light Acadia Hospital

Dr. Christy Blevins is a general adult inpatient psychiatrist practicing at Northern Light Acadia Hospital in Bangor, Maine. While she provides care to all ages and genders, Dr Blevins has a special interest in women’s and LGBTQ mental health along with working towards decreasing mental health stigma.

A graduate of Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine- Carolinas Campus, Dr. Blevins completed a psychiatry residency at LewisGale Medical Center in Virginia, working closely with Virginia Campus VCOM students.
