TOMA/TXACOFP 17th Annual Convention

This session will address the complex disease of addiction and how it relates to opioid abuse, dependence, and treatment. Issues surrounding etiology, recognition, accountability, treatment of addiction and chronic pain syndromes will be addressed. Proper prescribing of opioids, and alternatives to opioid medications in pain management will be discussed.

Upon completion of this program, participants will be able to:

1. Understanding the basic etiology of addiction from a holistic perspective.
2. Understanding the difference in physical dependence and addiction
3. Understanding opioid-induced hyperalgesia.
4. Understanding how to recognize opioid abuse in the outpatient setting.
5. Understanding controlled substance contracts
6. Understanding Opioid alternatives to pain management.
