Antibiotic Resistance/Stewardship

This presentation will review the hazards associated with the overuse of antibiotic agents. The speaker will define the role of antimicrobial stewardship in ambulatory and inpatient settings and how it may mitigate these risks.

Learning Objectives:
  1. Define the individual and public health dangers resulting from overuse of antibiotics
  2. Understand the regulatory requirements of antimicrobial stewardship
  3. Provide guidelines for appropriate use of these drugs in outpatients
  4. Review strategies hospitals utilize to improve antimicrobial management

Immunotherapy in Lung Cancer

This presentation will provide an update on advancements in immunotherapy options for lung cancer patients.

The Texas Osteopathic Medical Association (TOMA) is accredited by the American Osteopathic Association to provide osteopathic continuing medical education for physicians. Carl Vartian Related Seminars and Products


Dr. Carl Vartian currently serves as the Chief Medical Information Officer (CMIO) for the HCA-Gulf Coast Division, which includes 18 Texas hospitals in Houston, Corpus Christi and the Rio Grande Valley. Dr. Vartian joined the Hospital Corporation of America (HCA) in 2008. He previously served as the VPMA at West Houston and Bayshore Medical Centers before moving into his current role.

Dr. Vartian received his MD degree from the State University of New York-Downstate Medical School. He went on to complete an internal medicine residency at Cleveland Metropolitan General Hospital and an infectious disease fellowship at the University Hospitals of Cleveland. Dr. Vartian holds a Master of Science degree in Health Informatics from The University of Texas School of Biomedical Informatics. He is board certified in internal medicine, infectious diseases and clinical informatics and is a Fellow of the American College of Physicians and the Infectious Diseases Society of America.

Theodore Pollock Related Seminars and Products


Director of Medical Oncology at Cancer Treatment Centers of America® (CTCA) in Tulsa, Dr. Theodore Pollock brings over 30 years of oncology experience to people fighting cancer at CTCA®. He treats a number of malignancies, with a particular focus on lung cancer.

Dr. Pollock is board certified and a Fellow of the American College of Osteopathic Internists (FACOI). Before attending medical school, he earned a bachelor’s degree in biology from Guilford College in Greensboro, North Carolina. In 1973, Dr. Pollock earned an osteopathic medical degree from Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine in Kirksville, Missouri. He then completed an internship and residency at Doctors Hospital in Columbus, Ohio, as well as a medical oncology fellowship at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York. While there, Dr. Pollock was also a clinical instructor of medicine at Cornell Medical College.

Dr. Pollock joined the Medical Oncology Department at CTCA in 2008.
