Emerging Technologies in Diabetes Care

Embracing new technologies in diabetes care is key to optimizing outcomes in both alc and comorbidities as well reducing burden of care and improving compliance behaviors.

Objectives:

  1. Review the current available medical and device technology
  2. Explore developments due to arrive in 2019-2020
  3. Explore early research outcomes for future approaches

Human Trafficking

Rev. Miller will lead us in an honest look into human trafficking in 2019, specifically examining the truths, confronting the myths, and exploring a collaborative approach to fighting human trafficking. This session will focus largely on child sex trafficking in the U.S.

Objectives:

  1. Increase awareness of key indicators of involvement
  2. Understand how to report suspected sex trafficking concerns
  3. Understand the myths about sex trafficking victims

Statement of Accreditation
The Texas Osteopathic Medical Association (TOMA) is accredited by the American Osteopathic Association to provide osteopathic continuing medical education for physicians. TOMA designates is program for a maximum of 2 AOA Category 1-A credits and will report CME credits commensurate with the extent of the physician’s participation in this activity.

Lindsey Van Dyke, DO Related Seminars and Products


Lindsey VanDyke, DO, obtained her medical degree from Western University of Health Sciences in Pomona, California, and is certified through the American Osteopathic Board of Internal Medicine. She completed her Internal Medicine residency at College Medical Center in Long Beach, California. It was during this time Dr. VanDyke received the STAR award, the Research Award 3 years in a row, and was elected to serve as Chief Resident due to her outstanding work and dedication to her colleagues. Dr. VanDyke then acquired specialized training at the University of New Mexico in the field of Endocrinology and Metabolism. She published research addressing the hormonal contributions to PTSD and studied the diabetes drug Metformin and its potential as an anti-aging medication. As an Endocrinologist, she manages a broad scope of metabolic disorders, including diabetes and obesity medicine, bone health, thyroid hormones and cancer, blood pressure and cholesterol issues. She also manages hormone replacement therapies.

Dr. VanDyke’s unique background drew her to Osteopathic Medicine. Throughout her life she has been diagnosed with and treated for three different types of cancer. These personal experiences gave her an empathy for her patients and their families, as well as a passion for treating the "whole person" rather than just a disease. Her memoir, entitled “Bow Ties, Butterflies and Band-Aids”, details her experience and that of those closest to her, during their cancer journey and discusses the effects it has on the entire community.

Dr. VanDyke discloses that she has no relevant financial relationships with any organization producing, marketing, reselling, or distributing health care goods or services consumed by, or used on, patients relative to the content of this presentation.


 


Jannette Miller, JD, M. Div Related Seminars and Products


Rev. Jannette Miller is a member of the Central Texas DMST Roundtable and a frequent trainer and presenter in the area of human trafficking. Rev. Miller focuses on informing, preventing, and, one day, eradicating human trafficking. As an ordained United Methodist Clergy member and a licensed Texas attorney, she emphasizes both justice and mercy, believing that in God’s world these two always work in tandem. Her work against human trafficking began as a seminary class project, which led to her founding the Invisible Chains ministry at her local church, and wider community education and advocacy
