How to Stay Independent

Independent practices are looking for ways to stay independent. It is important to align yourself with the right organizations to win as an independent physician or small group. This session will discuss strategic partnerships: Accountable Care Organization’s (ACO’s), Independent Physician Associations (IPA’s), Accounting & Finance, and Billing & Collections. We will also discuss income and expense management. How it relates to what you do daily, what procedures you perform, scheduling patients, key performance indicators, and whether inside billing or outside billing works best for you and why.

Objectives:

  1. Determine what strategic partnerships work best for you and your practice
  2. Understand the financial principals for success
  3. Understand billing and collection principals that foster success

Hormone Replacement Therapy for Women 

Since the publication of the Women’s Health Initiative (WHI) findings in 2002 the management of menopause and the use of hormone therapy in
woman has been shrouded in misconceptions and controversy. This session will review the physiology of menopause and the role of estrogen in the human female. Additionally, the findings of the WHI study will be reviewed and a rational strategy for the hormonal management of menopause will be presented.

Objectives:

  1. Develop an enhanced appreciation for the role of estrogen in the human female
  2. Acquire a better appreciation of the risks and benefits of hormone therapy
  3. Demonstrate an improved understanding of the various hormonal options for managing menopausal women

Statement of Accreditation
The Texas Osteopathic Medical Association (TOMA) is accredited by the American Osteopathic Association to provide osteopathic continuing medical education for physicians. TOMA designates is program for a maximum of 3 AOA Category 1-A credits and will report CME credits commensurate with the extent of the physician’s participation in this activity.

Dr. Jewell Malick is board certified in Obstetrics and Gynecologic Surgery and has been a managing partner of The OB-GYN Place, P.A. in Rockwall, TX since 1991.  She has served as President of the American College of Osteopathic Obstetricians and Gynecologists, as a senior examiner on the certifying board, and as chair of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the Kirkville College of Osteopathic Medicine. Dr. Malick holds the rank of Captain in the United States Naval Reserve, is a private pilot and an avid golfer.
