Hypertension: An AHA Update

  • Review new AHA definitions of HTN
  • Review common complications of HTN
  • Review evidence based benefits of lowering blood pressure
  • Review causes of HTN
  • Review the recommended steps in the work up of HTN
  • Review AHA recommended therapy

The Iowa Osteopathic Medical Association is accredited by the American Osteopathic Association to provide osteopathic continuing medical education for physicians and designates this program for a maximum of 1 AOA Category 1-A credits and will report CME and specialty credits commensurate with the extent of the physician's participation in this activity.

Dr. Kyla Carney is the Associate Program Director of MercyOne Family Medicine Residency and Director of Student Programs at MercyOne. She attended medical school at Des Moines University and completed residency at the Mayo School of Graduate Medical Education at Mercy. Dr. Carney has taught for 14 years and holds research interests in preventative care, women’s health, pediatrics, quality and safety.
