Rang My Bell
Laurel Mueller, DO

In 2008, I fell 20 feet while hiking on Bell Rock in Sedona, AZ. I suffered a left trimalleolar fracture, right wrist scaphoid fracture, and a concussion. I was flown out by helicopter to Flagstaff Medical Center, where I underwent surgery and stayed for 10 days. I spent 2 weeks in a rehab facility and 4 months in a wheelchair. My injuries present a perfect opportunity to learn about diagnosis, treatment and therapy of 3 common injuries. During the presentation, the speaker will also discuss the key role of Osteopathic Manipulative Therapy (OMT) in her rehabilitation and some hiking safety tips. Following this presentation, participants will have an increased awareness of these emergencies, convey standard of care treatment, and familiarize the participants with after-care needed should a patient present to their practice after having suffered one of these incidents.

Upon completion of this program, participants will be able to:

  1. Learn to diagnose and treat three injuries (trimalleolar ankle fracture, scaphoid (wrist) fracture and concussion)
  2. Review and understand hiking safety tips and injury prevention
  3. Learn and review OMT techniques for physical rehabilitation and therapy for these injuries
