Description

There are many factors that may increase the risk of rheumatoid arthritis. Dr. Joy Schechtman, DO, FACR, FACOI, discusses this chronic, inflammatory autoimmune disease.

Objectives:

  • Summarize the signs and symptoms of Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA)
  • Assess the patient in order to provide a provisional diagnosis
  • Demonstrate the importance of an early and accurate diagnosis

Joy Schechtman, DO, FACR, FACOI is a board certified internist and rheumatologist and owner of Sun Valley Arthritis Center in Peoria, Arizona. Dr. Schechtman is Professor, Clinical Education in both the Arizona College of Osteopathic Medicine and College of Allied Health Professions at Midwestern University and Clinical Assistant Professor, Clinical Education at Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine. Following graduation from Ohio University College of Osteopathic Medicine, she completed her residency in internal medicine at Doctor’s Hospital in Columbus, Ohio and a fellowship in rheumatology at The Cleveland Clinic Foundation in Cleveland, Ohio.  Dr. Schechtman has been a principal investigator in over 170 studies covering multiple diseases including rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, psoriatic arthritis, osteoporosis, and gout.
