Karen J. Nichols, DO
Karen J. Nichols, DO, MA, MACOI, FACP, CS-F, “ACGME Update, Including Osteopathic Recognition,” is chair of the board of directors of the Accreditation Council of Graduate Medical Education (ACMGE) and chief executive officer of Nichols Leadership Consulting. Prior to this, she served as dean of the Midwestern University/Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine (MWU/CCOM) for 16 years. Dr. Nichols is a graduate of Arizona State University in Tempe, and a 1981 graduate of the Kansas City University College of Osteopathic Medicine (KCU-COM). She also earned a master’s degree in management with a specialty in healthcare administration from Central Michigan University. She completed an internship and internal medicine residency at Oklahoma Osteopathic Hospital in Tulsa, and completed the American Osteopathic Association’s (AOA) health policy fellowship program. A master fellow of the American College of Osteopathic Internists, she is a fellow of the American College of Physicians and holds eight honorary degrees. Dr. Nichols is past president of the AOA, the American College of Osteopathic Internists, the Arizona Osteopathic Medical Association and the Institute of Medicine of Chicago Board of Governors. She has received numerous honors, including the AOA’s Distinguished Service Award and Presidential Citation. She has provided no disclosures.
