Learning Objectives:

  • Identify components of palliative care
  • Discuss the ways in which the osteopathic philosophy aligns with finding health near death
  • Develop a strategy for providing care to patients and their families over the final days of life

Dr. Cass is board certified in Hospice and Palliative Medicine and is a fellow of the American Academy of Hospice and Palliative Medicine. She is also board certified by the American Osteopathic Board of Family Physicians and holds a Certificate of Added Qualification in Geriatrics. She is a member of the Board of the Ohio Pain Initiative, serves as a member of the American Osteopathic End of Life Committee and National Quality Forum Advisory Committee for Hospice and Palliative Care.

Edward Hosbach, DO's Profile

Dr. Hosbach practices medicine at Mercer Health Medical Group at Fort Recovery and Mercer Health’s Wellness and Occupational Health Services clinic based at the Community Medical Center in Celina.  As an osteopathic family physician, he provides comprehensive health care to patients from the nursery to the nursing home. He strives to look at the “whole patient” and know them over a long period of time to promote preventive care and better manage chronic illnesses. He enjoys using his osteopathic manipulation skills to improve patient health, as well as doing office procedures such as joint injection and skin surgeries.

He also teaches medical students and residents as a clinical assistant professor for Ohio University Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine (OU-HCOM). He is a 1987 OU-HCOM graduate and completed his internship and residency at Grandview Hospital in Dayton, where he was named Intern of the Year. Interestingly, his undergraduate degree is in electrical engineering.

Arvin Nanda, DO graduated from the Des Moines University of Osteopathic Medicine and Health Sciences in 1995. He completed his residency in family medicine at Grandview Medical Center. He is board certified through the American Osteopathic Board of Family Physicians.

Dr. Nanda practices medicine at Kettering Health Network at Far Hills Primary Care based in Dayton. His commitment to his patients mirrors the network’s mission to improve the quality of life of the people in the communities he serves.
