Learning Objectives:
1. Describe how to differentiate acne from other dermatologic conditions by recognizing key
clinical features and ruling out common mimickers.
2. List comprehensive treatment options for acne, including topical, oral, and intralesional
therapies, along with their indications, mechanisms of action, and potential side effects.
3. Explain appropriate acne treatment selection based on severity, when dermatology referral is
warranted, and how acne impacts multiple aspects of a patient’s well-being. By effectively
managing acne, physicians implement an osteopathic approach to patient care that addresses
both the physical and psychosocial components of the disease.
