Learning Objectives:

  • –Principles of antimicrobial stewardship
  • –Defining asymptomatic bacteriuria (ASB) and distinguishing from urinary tract infection (UTI)
  • –Identify who should and should not be tested and treated for asymptomatic bacteriuria
  • –Identify appropriate antibiotics for UTI
  • –Identify opportunities for de-escalation of antibiotics for UTI
  • Identify reasonable duration of therapy

Thompson Liddell, MD, is a physician at Hattiesburg Clinic Infectious Diseases.

Liddell received his medical degree from the University of Mississippi in Jackson, Miss. He completed an internal medicine internship and residency at the University of Mississippi Medical Center (UMMC) in Jackson. He also completed a fellowship in infectious diseases at UMMC.

Liddell is board certified in infectious diseases by the Infectious Diseases Society of America. He is a member of several prestigious medical organizations, including American Medical Association, American College of Physicians, Infectious Diseases Society of America and Mississippi Medical Association.

At Hattiesburg Clinic, Liddell provides consultation for a range of infectious diseases. He has specific interests in antibiotic stewardship, bone and joint infections, and atypical mycobacteria. His primary focus is to meet the medical needs of his patients while growing lasting relationships with them.

Liddell is a Hattiesburg native and a proud supporter of The University of Southern Mississippi Golden Eagles. He has a wonderful wife and four wonderful children.
