During the COVID-19 pandemic, concerns about mental health and substance use have grown. Adults in poor general health continue to report higher rates of anxiety and/or depression than adults in good health. Physicians should increase prevention and intervention efforts to address associated mental health conditions and reduce potential harms of increased substance use.

Jacob W. McBride, DO, “Anxiety, Depression & Substance Abuse,” is a board certified psychiatrist at Saint Clair Hospital in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Dr. McBride is a graduate of the University of Pittsburgh and a 2012 graduate of the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine. He completed a psychiatry residency at University Hospitals, Case Medical Center in Cleveland, Ohio and a public service psychiatry fellowship at the University of Pittsburgh Center for Public Service Psychiatry.
