Learning Objectives

1Describe the impact of social determinants of health (SDOH) on patient outcomes. 

2. Identify common themes around best practices for SDOH screening.

3. Evaluate potential barriers and facilitators for SDOH screening implementation into an ambulatory practice.

Accreditation Statement

The Ohio Osteopathic Foundation (OOF) is accredited by the American Osteopathic Association to provide osteopathic continuing medical education for physicians. The OOF will report CME and specialty credits commensurate with the extent of the physician’s participation in this activity.

Dr. Alexandra McKenna is an Associate Program Director at OhioHealth Doctors Hospital Family Medicine residency.

She is a graduate of Ohio University Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine, OhioHealth Doctors Hospital Family Medicine Residency, and the AFMRD's NIPDD Fellowship.

In Dr. McKenna’s various roles in Graduate Medical Education, she has enjoyed collaborating with peers and learners to implement innovative curricular changes to an established family medicine program while preserving its strong osteopathic foundation.


Joy Walton, DO's Profile

Joy Walton, DO Related Seminars and Products


Dr. Joy Walton is a dual board-certified internal medicine-pediatrics physician and native of Columbus, Ohio. She worked as an adult hospitalist with OhioHealth and a complex care pediatrician with Nationwide Children’s Hospital for a decade before transitioning into graduate medical education in 2023.

Dr. Walton now serves as an Associate Program Director of the Internal Medicine residency at OhioHealth Doctors Hospital and the co-Medical Director of Community Care to increase accessibility to primary care. She resides in Westerville with her husband and three children.
