Description

Learning Objectives:

  • Assess medication, substance, and exposure risks in lactating patients to determine when pumping and discarding milk is necessary.
  • Apply evidence-based resources and guidelines to make safe breastfeeding recommendations during maternal illness, medication use, or procedures.
  • Differentiate situations in which continued breastfeeding is safe versus those requiring temporary interruption.
  • Counsel breastfeeding patients effectively to minimize unnecessary pumping and discarding while ensuring infant safety.

BIO: Dr. Rebecca Rose is excited to be involved in teaching again and in guiding residents on their learning pathway. She came to Mississippi from North Carolina on a ballet scholarship and hasn’t left yet! She even did her active-duty US Air Force commitment at Keesler Air Force Base. Dr. Rose did her medical school and residency training at the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson, MS, then proceeded to Keesler Air Force Base, where she served as medical director of the Family Medicine Clinic. She was also involved with supervising and teaching medical students, new nurse practitioners and physician assistants. Dr. Rose served as medical director of the Air Force PA training program at Keesler Air Force Base. She is married and has two boys, who are the light of her life. Her furry children are pretty awesome, too!
