This session will provide an update on the indications, contraindications, follow up, and management of implanted cardiac devices. Hundreds of thousands of patients receive implanted cardiac rhythm devices each year for brachycardia, heart block, and heart failure. The number of people who may benefit from an implantable cardioverter defibrillator and/or cardiac resynchronization device continues to increase each year. The management of patients with implanted devices remains a major part of the daily practice for cardiologists and primary care physicians.

The Texas Osteopathic Medical Association (TOMA) is accredited by the American Osteopathic Association to provide osteopathic continuing medical education for physicians. TOMA designates is program for a maximum of 1 AOA Category 1-A credits and will report CME credits commensurate with the extent of the physician’s participation in this activity.

Dr. Ewing is a native Texan, born and raised in Dallas. He attended Southern Methodist University and received a BS in Mechanical Engineering. Dr. Ewing attended the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and received an MS in Mechanical Engineering. He was an engineer at Texas Instruments – Dallas for many years, working in defense systems. Dr. Ewing returned to college and graduated from the University of North Texas Health Science Center Texas College of Osteopathic Medicine in Fort Worth. He then completed postgraduate training in Internal Medicine, General Cardiology, and Interventional Cardiology. Dr. Ewing has hospital affiliations with Harris Methodist Fort Worth, Baylor Scott & White Fort Worth, Medical City Fort Worth, John Peter Smith Hospital, and Texas Rehabilitation Hospital. Dr. Ewing has faculty appointments at UNTHSC Texas College of Osteopathic Medicine and the TCU Burnett School of Medicine.
