There are more than 100 types of rheumatic diseases, including all forms of arthritis and spondyloarthropathies. This session will walk attendees through several case studies, aiding in providing a better understanding of how to diagnose patients who present with rheumatology symptoms.
At the conclusion of this session, the participant should be able to:
- Expedite differential diagnosis of rheumatic diseases, begin treatment, and make appropriate referral to rheumatologist for further treatment.

David J. Chesner, DO, FACR, FACOI, “What to do with a Positive ANA Test,” and “Rheumatology Case Review,” is an attending physician and partner of Rheumatic Disease Associates in Willow Grove, Pennsylvania. Board certified in internal medicine and rheumatology, Dr. Chesner is a graduate of Seton Hall University and a 1993 graduate of the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine (PCOM), where is he completed an internship and internal medicine residency. He also completed a rheumatology fellowship at Temple University Hospital in Philadelphia. A fellow of the American College of Rheumatology and the American College of Osteopathic Internists, Dr. Chesner is a member of POMA, the American Osteopathic Association, the Montgomery County Medical Society and the Pennsylvania Medical Society. He has no relevant financial relationship(s) with ineligible companies to disclose.
