Objectives for Chronic Plantar Fasciitis: 

  • Contrast chronic or recalcitrant plantar fasciitis with the acute condition of the same name.
  • Review diagnostic features of chronic plantar fasciitis.
  • Correlate symptoms and exam findings with recommended treatment or referrals.

Mathew Johnstone, DPM Related Seminars and Products


Dr. Johnstone is a full-time faculty member of the Des Moines University College of Podiatric Medicine and Surgery, joining the faculty in June 2021. Prior to this appointment he was in academic clinical practice at the University of Oklahoma, health sciences campus in Oklahoma City. Dr. Johnstone Completed his residency training at South Miami Hospital in Miami Florida, followed by a fellowship in Diabetic foot research in Denver Colorado. Dr. Johnstone is a graduate of the Temple University School of Podiatric Medicine and dual-degree graduate of the University of South Florida. He has lectured at several Podiatric and interdisciplinary medical conferences. Dr. Johnstone’s present research is in the ultrasonic evaluation of chronic and acute plantar fasciitis. He lives in beautiful downtown Des Moines with his wife and little dog and he an avid fly fisherman and nationally rated fencer.
