Among the 10 leading causes of death in the United States, cirrhosis results from progressive fibrosis and is the final outcome of all chronic liver disease. Cirrhosis and its complications not only impair quality of life but also decrease survival. Managing patients with cirrhosis can be a challenge and requires an organized and systemic approach. This session will provide information about prevention and treatment of cirrhosis and the potential complications to improve patient outcomes.

Ravi Kondaveeti, MD, “Cirrhosis and Its Complications,” is chief of gastroenterology at UPMC East Hospital, McKeesport Hospital and West Mifflin Outpatient Surgical Center. Board certified in internal medicine and gastroenterology, Dr. Kondaveeti is a graduate of Duquesne University in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and a 1997 graduate of St. George School of Medicine in Bayshore, New York. He completed an internal medicine residency at Western Pennsylvania Hospital in Pittsburgh and a gastroenterology, transplant, hepatology and nutrition fellowship at Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood, Illinois.
