Cancer therapeutics often contribute to cardiovascular disease. Early identification and implementation of risk mitigation strategies can improve outcomes. Cardio-oncology is an integrative, multidisciplinary specialty which can assist providers in prevention, detection, monitoring, and treatment of cardiovascular toxicity related to cancer therapy as well as provide optimal care to those with concomitant cardiovascular disease and cancer.

Christopher Bianco, DO “Common Cancer Therapies Associated with Cardiotoxicity,” is associate director of the general cardiology fellowship program and an assistant professor in the division of cardiology at the West Virginia University Heart and Vascular Institute in Morgantown, West Virginia. Dr. Bianco is board certified in internal medicine, cardiology, nuclear cardiology, advanced heart failure/transplant cardiology and cardio-oncology. A graduate of Penn State University in State College, Pennsylvania and a 2009 graduate of the Lake Erie College of Medicine, he completed an internal medicine residency at Cleveland (Ohio) Clinic, a general cardiology fellowship at East Carolina University in Greenville, North Carolina, and an advanced heart failure and transplantation fellowship at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio. Dr. Bianco is a member of the American Heart Association, the American College of Cardiology, the Heart Failure Society of America, the American Transplant Society, the International Society of Heart and Lung Transplant, and the International Cardio-Oncology Society.
