First presented live at the 2022 WVOMA CME Conference, we offer this on-demand CME program as George Sokos, DO explores contemporary heart failure.

Following the completion of this program, attendees shall be able to:

  • Understand the pathophysiology and underlying mechanisms of heart failure, including the various types, classifications, and stages, in order to accurately diagnose and classify patients with heart failure.
  • Evaluate the latest evidence-based guidelines and recommendations for the pharmacological and non-pharmacological management of heart failure, including the use of novel therapies, device-based treatments, and lifestyle interventions.
  • Develop treatment plans for patients with heart failure, integrating multidisciplinary approaches, patient education, and shared decision-making to optimize outcomes, reduce hospitalizations, and improve quality of life.

ACCREDITATION STATEMENT: The West Virginia Osteopathic Medical Association (WVOMA) is accredited by the AOA to provide osteopathic continuing medical education for physicians.  WVOMA designates this activity for a maximum of 1.25 Category 1-A credits ans will report CME and specialty credits comensurate with the extent of the physicians' participation in this activity.

George G. Sokos, DO, FACC, “Congestive Heart Failure Update,” is medical director of advanced heart failure, mechanical circulatory support and cardiac transplant at West Virginia University Medicine in Morgantown. Board certified in internal medicine, cardiovascular disease, and advanced heart failure and transplant, he is also an associate professor of medicine at the West Virginia University School of Medicine. Dr. Sokos is a graduate of the West Virginia University School of Pharmacy and a 1999 graduate of the West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine in Lewisburg. He completed an internship at South Pointe Hospital in Cleveland, Ohio; an internal medicine residency and cardiology fellowship at Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; and a heart failure and cardiac transplant medicine fellowship at Cleveland Clinic in Cleveland, Ohio. A fellow of the American College of Cardiology, Dr. Sokos is a member of POMA, the American Osteopathic Association, the American College of Physicians, the Heart Failure Society of America, the International Society of Heart and Lung Transplantation, the American Heart Association and the American Medical Association.
