Description

First presented at the 2019 OPSO Annual Primary Care CME Conference on September 28, 2019. OPSO is pleased to bring you this on-demand CME program presented by Eden Miller, DO. 

Educational Obejctives:

Following completion of the program, participants will be able to identify patients with diabetes who could benefit from continuous glucose monitoring, prescribe and apply the device for their patients, document utility in chart notes, obtain coverage from insurance payors or direct cash paying patients to distributors, instruct patients on how to personally benefit from data obtained, bill in the office for insertions, interpretation, and clinic follow up, download the data from the CGM for clinical interpretation for medication, and life style intervention, and continued utilization for the patient and provider to mutually benefit from this real time glucose data. During the program participants will be given the opportunity to personally apply the Abbott Free Style Flash Glucose monitoring system, swipe their own personal glucose data for 14 days and take the reader home with them for personal use in their clinic.

The Osteopathic Physicians and Surgeons of Oregon is accredited by the American Osteopathic Association to provide osteopathic continuing medical education for physicians and designates this program for a maximum of 2 AOA Category 1-A credits and will report CME and specialty credits commensurate with the extent of the physician's participation in this activity.

Kevin Miller, DO, is a board-certified Family Practitioner with Osteopathic training. He earned his medical degree from Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine in 1996 and completed an Osteopathic teaching fellowship. Dr. Miller moved to the Pacific Northwest with his physician wife, where he co-founded Diabetes Nation, a non-profit organization, and Diabetes and Obesity Care, where he currently practices. 
With over 25 years in medical practice, Dr. Miller has held various roles, including president, CME director, and health policy advocate for the Osteopathic Medical Association of Oregon over a 20-year period. He has served on the board of delegates for the AOA and ACOFP. He completed an Osteopathic Health Care Policy Fellowship in 2023. He and his wife are also founders and board members of Type 1 Buddy Camp, which will celebrate its 10th camp in August 2024. 

Dr. Miller is a family physician at heart, and he has dedicated much of his career to caring for individuals as a small-town primary care provider. He has a special interest in disease prevention and in prediabetes. In 2023 he presented on diabetes prevention at the 83rd ADA Scientific Sessions. Following the presentation, he developed the module on diabetes prevention for Diabetes is Primary and currently serves as chair of Diabetes is Primary for the ADA.  With a strong background in quality improvement, Dr. Miller continues to provide valuable insights and knowledge to help primary care providers find greater success in their care of patients.
