Although most people with COVID-19 get better within weeks of illness, some people experience post-COVID conditions. These conditions are a wide range of new, returning or ongoing health problems people can experience four or more weeks after being infected with the virus that causes COVID-19. These conditions can have different types and combinations of health problems for different lengths of time making it imperative physicians receive the latest information regarding this syndrome in order to better understand the conditions and long-term effects on their patients.

Amanda M. Michael, DO, “COVID-19 Update,” is vice president of Pittsburgh Infectious Diseases, Ltd. and chief of infectious diseases at St. Clair Hospital in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Board certified in internal medicine and infectious diseases, she is a graduate of Grove City (Pa.) College and a 2008 graduate of the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine. She completed an internship, internal medicine residency and infectious diseases and HIV medicine fellowship at Drexel University College of Medicine in Philadelphia. Dr. Michael is a member of POMA, the American Osteopathic Association, the Pennsylvania Medical Society, the Allegheny County Medical Society, the American Medical Association, the Infectious Diseases Society of America and Physicians for Human Rights.
