1. Identify the risk factors and pathological entities for Alzheimer’s disease (AD)
2. Define the infection hypothesis of Alzheimer’s disease. Describe the approaches used to study the infectious agents and subsequent host-pathogen relationships involved in Alzheimer’s disease pathogenesis
3. Provide a perspective of how Chlamydia pneumoniae may be involved with AD neuropathogenesis
The Ohio Osteopathic Foundation (OOF) is accredited by the American Osteopathic Association to provide osteopathic continuing medical education for physicians. Brian J. Balin, PhD, “Degenerative Diseases of the Brain,” is professor of microbiology and immunology and director for the Center for Chronic Disorders of Aging at PCOM. He is a graduate of the University of Maryland and earned a PhD from the University of Maryland School of Medicine in Baltimore, MD. He is a member of the New York Academy of Sciences, the American Society for Cell Biology, the American Association for the Advancement of Science, the Society for Neuroscience, the American Society for Microbiology, the Sigma Xi Research Society, the Association of Clinical Scientists and the Chlamydia Basic Research Society.
