Educational Objectives:
Diagnose diabetic nephropathy and when to refer to a nephrologist
Mitigate indications for RAAS inhibitor therapy and then to discontinue
Differentiate the different diabetes drugs, safety issues, and dosing
Initiate measures to slow CKD progression and educate patients accordingly

Elise Barney, DO received her doctor of osteopathic medicine from Midwestern University Arizona College of Osteopathic Medicine (AZCOM). Board certified in internal medicine and nephrology, Dr. Barney completed her internal medicine residency at Banner Good Samaritan Medical Center and Phoenix VA Medical Center in Phoenix and a fellowship in nephrology and hypertension at UCLA-Olive View Medical Center in California. She is a Clinical Assistant Professor in Internal Medicine at AZCOM and the University of Arizona College of Medicine in Phoenix. Dr. Barney is a staff nephrologist at the Phoenix VA Health Care System.
