Learning Objectives:

  • State the general exercise recommendations for all Americans
  • Understand the benefits and risks of exercise for patients with chronic disease
  • Adapt forms of exercise for those with chronic medical issues
  • Utilize interprofessional teamwork to help those with chronic disease
  • Appreciate how osteopathic manipulative treatment allows exercises to work more effectively

  • Apply the fundamentals of writing an exercise prrescription for patients with opioid addiction.

Dr. Heinking is a 1994 graduate of the Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine of Midwestern University (CCOM/MWU). He is currently board certified in Family Medicine, Sports Medicine and Neuromusculoskeletal Medicine. Academically, Dr. Heinking currently holds the position of Chair and Professor of Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine and Professor of Family Medicine at the Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine / Midwestern University. Dr. Heinking holds the distinction of Fellow of the American Academy of Osteopathy (FAAO). Dr. Heinking lectures at national and international programs and has numerous scholarly publications. He is an active researcher in both Osteopathic manipulative medicine and sports medicine. Dr. Heinking sees patients at the MWU Multispecialty Clinic, in Downers Grove, IL. Dr. Heinking maintains membership to the Illinois Osteopathic Medical Society, American Academy of Osteopathic Family Physicians, American Academy of Osteopathic Sports Medicine, the Cranial Academy, the American Academy of Osteopathy and the A.O.A.

Dr. Ladewski graduated from the Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine in 2005.  He completed his Family Medicine Residency and Primary Care Sports Medicine Fellowship at Resurrection Medicine Center.  He is board certified in Family Medicine and holds a certificate of added qualifications in Primary Care Sports Medicine.  Dr, Ladewski is a fellow of the American Academy of Family Physicians and is a Diplomate of the American College of Lifestyle Medicine. Dr. Ladewski covers various Chicagoland high school sporting events and athletic training rooms.  In addition, Dr. Ladewski has covered numerous Chicago Marathon and local endurance events.  He practices Family and Primary Care Sports Medicine at Amita Health Resurrection Medical Center and is faculty at both the Family Medicine Residency and Primary Care Sports Medicine Fellowship where he enjoys working with patients to become more active by writing exercise prescriptions.
