Reducing the vast unmet need for family planning remains a challenge. Providers are at the core of health system responses to these challenges, especially during critical times, such as those brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic. This session will review the U.S. Medical Eligibility Criteria for Contraceptive Use to aid clinicians as they counsel patients in the various forms of contraceptives available. Providing this valuable education to physicians will help reduce the rate of unintended pregnancies and help lower maternal ill-health.

Bryan E. LaBuda, DO, FACOG, “Gynecology Update: Contraception,” is a partner and practicing physician with Premier Women’s Health, Ltd., in Sewickley, Pennsylvania. Board certified in obstetrics and gynecology, he is a graduate of Duquesne University in Pittsburgh, and a 1988 graduate of the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine. He completed an internship at Central Medical Center and Hospital, and an obstetrics and gynecology residency at Western Pennsylvania Hospital, both in Pittsburgh. A fellow of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, Dr. LaBuda is a member of POMA, the American Osteopathic Association, the Allegheny County Medical Society, and the Federation of Physicians and Dentists.
