Learning Objectives:

  • Talk about barriers to OMT in the clinical setting.
  • ◦ Define the epidemiology, natural course of, and pathophysiology of persistent low back pain.
  • ◦ Discuss osteopathic diagnosis and treatment to of somatic dysfunction involving the sacrum, pelvis, and lumbar regions.
  • ◦ Implement evidence-based medicine in the care of patients with low back pain.

Carissa Rosten, DO graduated from PCOM Georgia in 2020 after receiving the “Excellence in Osteopathic Medicine” award.  She completed a transitional year following graduation, followed by residency in neuromuscular medicine in New Mexico where she served as chief resident in 2023.  Following graduation, she accepted a position at WCUCOM as an Assistant Professor of OMM.  She has a husband and is mother to two precious boys.
