Objectives for Medical Cannabis in Iowa: What Practitioners Need to Know: 

  • Review the medical cannabidiol law as it pertains to physicians, including: stakeholder definitions, roles, responsibilities and protections.
  • Identify the types of educational materials that the Department is providing to physicians about medical cannabidiol, including research and CME opportunities.
  • Review the compliance infrastructure of the medical cannabidiol program, as well as form and quantities of products allowed.

The Iowa Osteopathic Medical Association is accredited by the American Osteopathic Association to provide osteopathic continuing medical education for physicians and designates this program for a maximum of 1 AOA Category 1-A credits and will report CME and specialty credits commensurate with the extent of the physician's participation in this activity.

Owen Parker, MPH Related Seminars and Products


Owen has worked with IDPH since 2018 developing and implementing Iowa Code chapter 124E and the compliance infrastructure of Iowa’s medical cannabis program. Owen is also a Voting and Founding Member of the Cannabis Regulators Association (CANNRA), a national organization of principal cannabis regulators across the US, as well as Co-Chair of the CANNRA Special Committee on Medical Use and Research. Owen received his masters of public health degree from the University of Iowa, and a biology degree and minor in chemistry from the University of Northern Iowa. He has been working on the regulatory and operations side of the cannabis since 2015.
