Title:  Musculoskeletal Ultrasound

Learning Objectives

By the end of this session, participants will be able to:

1)  Understand the basic principles of musculoskeletal/sports ultrasound.

2)  Identify the sonographic appearance of musculoskeletal tissue (bone, nerve, tendon, muscle, ligament).

3)  Recognize patterns and diagnostic criteria for soft tissue injury in commonly injured structures as well as common artifacts.

4)  Identify injuries and procedures that would benefit from sonographic visualization and guidance.

Dr. Kiefer is a graduate of the University of New England College of Osteopathic Medicine (UNECOM) in Biddeford, ME, and is the Fellowship Director for Community Health Network’s Primary Care Sports Medicine Fellowship in Indianapolis, IN. She has been using and teaching sports ultrasound for the past 10 years. She is a fellow of the American Medical Society for Sports Medicine, and Head Team Physician for the University of Indianapolis and Warren Central High School. She regularly teaches and coordinates opportunities for the family medicine residents at Community Health Network to understand and to gain practical experience with sports ultrasound.
