Obesity is a chronic disease that affects millions of American and costs the US an estimated $173 billion dollars a year. While lifestyle interventions are key to managing obesity, they have limited efficacy. This session will address the current pharmaceutical interventions that have been developed and approved for long-term management of the condition. Many physicians feel uncomfortable prescribing medication for the management of the disease and there is also stigma related to the management of obesity. Given the scope of the obesity problem around the world, physicians need evidence-based treatment options to address this disease.
At the conclusion of this session, the participant should be able to:
- Feel comfortable using anti-obesity medication for the management of overweight and obese patients.
