Description

This presentation will discuss the application of osteopathic principles in clinical practice management of dermatological conditions.  OMM training is needed to facilitate mastery of the osteopathic principles and practice competencies outlined in the osteopathic recognition residency requirements for faculty and residents.

Learning objectives for this activity: 
1. Describe the rationale for the inclusion of OMM in the management of dermatological conditions
2. Demonstrate OMT techniques that are suitable for the adjunctive care of dermatological conditions
3. Describe the role of lifestyle management in dermatological conditions

Accreditation Statement:
Missouri Association of Osteopathic Physicians and Surgeons (MAOPS) is accredited by the American Osteopathic Association to provide osteopathic continuing medical education for physicians.  MAOPS designates this program for a maximum of 1.75 AOA Category 1-A CME credits, and will report CME and specialty credits commensurate with the extent of the physician’s participation.

Missouri Association of Osteopathic Physicians and Surgeons (MAOPS) designates this live activity for a maximum of 1.75 AMA PRA Category 1 Creditsä.  Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

Karen Snider, DO, FAAO, FNAOME, is a professor at A.T. Still University’s Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine (ATSU-KCOM).  Dr. Snider is board certified in Neuromusculoskeletal Medicine and Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine.  She earned her doctor of osteopathic medicine from West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine, and she completed residency at Northeast Regional Medical Center.  Dr. Snider has earned fellowship awards from the American Academy of Osteopathy and the National Academy of Osteopathic Medical Educators.

Dr. David Cleaver graduated from ATSU‐KCOM in 2006. He completed his training at the Michigan State University ‐ St. Joseph Mercy Hospital and returned to Kirksville to join his father’s practice, Cleaver Dermatology, in 2010. 

 

Dr. Cleaver is currently an associate professor of dermatology at ATSU‐KCOM. He is the President Elect of the American Osteopathic College of Dermatology. He is also the current program director for the dermatology residency training program at Northeast Regional Medical Center – Still OPTI.  He is board certified by the AOBD in dermatology and Mohs surgery. He practices general dermatology, Mohs surgery, dermatological surgery, and cosmetic dermatology.

Jonathan Cleaver, DO's Profile

Dr. Jonathan Cleaver attended Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine/ A.T. Still University in 2008.  He completed his residency training and Mohs surgical fellowship at the Northeast Regional Medical Center in Kirksville.   Dr. Cleaver is currently serving as the president for the Missouri Dermatological Society, a member of the Board of Trustees for A.T. Still University, President of the Heartland Physician Corporation, and the Vice-Chair for the IPN network. He is also on the faculty for the dermatology residency training program at Northeast Regional Medical Center. Dr. Cleaver is board certified by the American Osteopathic Board of Dermatology. He practices general dermatology and dermatological surgery in Kirksville, MO.

Lloyd Cleaver, DO's Profile

Dr. Lloyd Cleaver, D.O. was born in Macon, Missouri. He completed his training at the San Diego Navy Regional Medical Center and served with the Navy and Navy Reserves. Dr. Cleaver and his wife, Kathy, returned to Kirksville in 1985 and founded the Cleaver Dermatology Clinic in 1986. Dr. Cleaver has three sons who have joined him at Cleaver Dermatology – David, Jonathan, and Nathan. He founded a dermatology residency training program in 1991 and served as the Program Director until 2015. In 2015, he founded a Mohs Surgery Fellowship where he currently serves as Program Director.

Dr. Cleaver is currently a professor of dermatology at Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine/A.T.Still University and the Assistant Vice President of Continuing Education. He has been Vice-Chair and is currently serving as Secretary/Treasurer to the American Osteopathic Board of Dermatology. He has also served as President of the Kirksville Osteopathic Alumni Association and President of the American Osteopathic College of Dermatology.
