Description

The Pain Management and Opioids curriculum, developed by nationally recognized experts, balances the risks and benefits of opioid prescribing while providing the latest insights in this critical area. Key topics include the nature and pathophysiology of pain, effective patient assessment, patient-centered pain treatment plans, non-pharmaceutical pain management options, managing patients on opioids, educating patients and caregivers, and addressing opioid use disorder.

OBJECTIVES:

• Fully assess persons experiencing pain, including risk for OUD.

• Develop safe and effective pain management plans using nonpharmacologic and pharmacologic (nonopioid or opioid) options.

• Partner with patients to reduce risks when taking opioid therapy

Statement of Accreditation

The Texas Osteopathic Medical Association (TOMA) is accredited by the American Osteopathic Association to provide osteopathic continuing medical education for physicians. TOMA designates this program for a maximum of 1 AOA Category 1-A credits and will report CME credits commensurate with the extent of the physician’s participation in this activity.
