Learning Objectives

By the end of this session, participants will be able to:

1)  Understand the pathophysiology behind molecular mimicry and its role in autoimmunity.

2)  Understand the neuropsychiatric symptoms from Strep (and other pathogen) infections and how they lead to autoimmune CNS responses.

3)  Understand the history of PANS and the outcomes we have seen in the academic and community centers treating children with this disorder.

4)  Understand the appropriate diagnostic work-up for patients with PANS and current effective treatment approaches.

Dr. Antoine completed his undergraduate training at the University of Scranton in Scranton, PA, after which he completed his doctorate at the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine (PCOM) in Philadelphia, PA. Following medical school, he completed an emergency medicine residency and an emergency medical services fellowship at Albert Einstein Medical Center in Philadelphia. Dr. Antoine then served seven years of active duty with the United States Army as an emergency medicine physician.  Upon completing his term of service, he moved to Indianapolis in 2005 and worked as an emergency medicine physician at St. Francis Hospital in Indianapolis, IN, where he also trained medical students and residents.  In addition to his board certification in emergency medicine, Dr. Antoine completed a fellowship in metabolic, nutritional, and functional medicine through the Metabolic Medical Institute.  In 2016, he was one of only 121 physicians nationwide to achieve board certification in integrative medicine through the American Board of Integrative Medicine. He also holds a certification in functional medicine through the Institute for Functional Medicine.  He and his wife, Ellen, also a PCOM graduate, currently run a busy functional and integrative medicine practice in Carmel, IN, where they focus on environmentally acquired illnesses and PANS/PANDAS.  They have five children and two dogs.
