Total Credits: .75 including .75 AOA Category 1-A Credit(s)
Preparing an athlete for sports requires medical and orthopedic evaluation, assessment of fitness for competition, and education in the principles of proper training. Because few individuals have access to a comprehensive sports medicine center, primary care physicians should familiarize themselves with the principles of prehabilitation to help young athletes prevent injury and realize their full potential. This session will provide clinicians with simple biomechanical assessment and fitness testing they can perform for their young athletes.
At the conclusion of this session, the participant should be able to:
- Describe the components of the preparticipation physical evaluation (PPE)
- Review common conditions that may impact an athlete.
- Discuss preventive counseling.
