Description

This program will expire and must be completed by 06/03/24.

In this panel discussion, Dr. Bechtold will moderate as Dr. Stewart and S/D Chris Lane discuss their health and life-altering cardiac events.  They discuss what their diet was like before and after their cardiac event and the life changes they have made to improve their health.  Their overall health and the various approaches used to treat them are explored during this discussion.     

Objectives:

  • Critique reactive medicine practices and acknowledge the co-morbidities that have resulted from form these practices
  • Contrast a traditional approach to medicine with changes that could result from the application of preventative medicine in dietary, physical activity, and stress management practices
  • Assemble a variety of resources for a personal application and patient utilization, which can then be used to initiate preventative medicine practices

The Missouri Association of Osteopathic Physicians and Surgeons (MAOPS) is accredited by the American Osteopathic Association to provide osteopathic continuing medical education for physicians. MAOPS designates this program for a maximum of 1 AOA Category 1-A credits and will report CME and specialty credits commensurate with the extent of the physician's participation.

The Missouri Association of Osteopathic Physicians and Surgeons (MAOPS) is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) to provide continuing medical education for physicians.

Grievance Policy:

Dr. Matthew Bechtold is a Professor of Clinical Medicine and Clinical Gastroenterologist practicing general Gastrointestinal and Nutrition at the University of Missouri, Columbia. He is a fellow of the American Gastroenterological Association, the American College of Gastroenterology, the American College of Physicians, and the American Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy. He is board certified in Gastroenterology and Internal Medicine by the American Board of Internal Medicine.

Despite a busy clinical schedule, he has published over 100 articles in outcomes research, nutrition, enteral access, and preventative strategies. He is actively involved in multiple national societies and serves on multiple national committees as a member and chair. He has been a national speaker on various topics in gastroenterology and quality improvement. He is very passionate about gastroenterological diseases, nutrition, and quality improvement.

Kenneth Stewart, DO, FAAEM, FACEP's Profile

Dr. Kenneth Stewart is an Emergency Medicine Physician in Joplin, Missouri, and northern Arkansas. He is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Primary Care for Kansas City University of Medicine and Biosciences – Joplin. He received his medical degree from the College of Osteopathic Medicine of the Pacific in Pomona, California. Dr. Stewart is board certified in Emergency Medicine by the American Osteopathic Board of Emergency Medicine and has been in practice for more than 27 years. Dr. Stewart has specialized training in Emergency Medicine in the following areas: FAST ultrasound, advanced cardiac life support, pediatric advanced life support, and advanced trauma life support. 

Dr. Stewart is a member of the Missouri Association of Osteopathic Physicians and Surgeons, the American College of Osteopathic Emergency Physicians, Michigan College of Emergency Physicians, Emergency Medicine Resident's Association, and the American Osteopathic Association. He is a Fellow of the American College of Emergency Physicians and the American Academy of Emergency Medicine.

Chris Lane, S/D's Profile

Chris Lane, S/D Related Seminars and Products


Christopher Lane is currently pursuing his Doctor of Osteopathy at Kansas City University of Medicine and Biosciences – Joplin. He obtained his bachelor's degree in athletic training at Salem State University in Salem, Massachusetts, in 2016. Before receiving his degree, he worked as a nuclear power operator for the US Navy and as an emergency medical technician.
