Description

Current evidence on concussion guidelines are evident, however, not often translated into practice. There is a limited understanding of the guidelines and implementation which can significantly impact outcomes in concussions. The goal of this lecture is to help the audience understand and implement current evidence in prolonged concussion symptom management with exercise, sleep and stress reduction. 

Learning objectives:

  1. Describe the historical evolution of concussion symptom management.
  2. Review the most recent current guidelines for concussion and expected recovery times.
  3. Provide research-based evidence for strategies on improving recovery.
  4. Highlight potential future directions of treatment paradigms.

The New York State Osteopathic Medical Society (NYSOMS) is accredited by the American Osteopathic Association (AOA) to provide osteopathic medical education to physicians. Dr. Rosanna Sabini specializes in the rehabilitation of patients who have sustained neurological injuries.  She is board certified in Brain Injury Medicine and Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation.  She received her medical degree from the New York College of Osteopathic Medicine and went on to complete her residency at Mount Sinai Medical Center and her fellowship in Traumatic Brain Injury at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. Dr. Sabini is the Chair of the Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation Department at South Shore University Hospital. She is the Medical Director of the Northwell Health Concussion Program. Dr. Sabini is also the Program Director for the Brain Injury Medicine Fellowship. She has served as a Ringside Physician for the New York Athletic Commission for nearly ten years and now serves on the Medical Advisory board to continue to protect the needs and complexities of combat related sport-injuries. Dr. Sabini is passionate about educating her patients and the community and empower their ability to achieve the best quality of life.
