Description

Thanks to reduced stigma and increased awareness, more patients are willing to seek entire mental health care than ever before.  Unfortunately, there are not enough providers to meet the need, and the entire health care community have become the front lines to mental health in Texas.  This presentation is a high yield hour packed with pearls to aid diagnosis of the most common mental health conditions.  It will cover assessing suicide risk, working with difficult patients and pharmacology.

Objectives:

  • How to counsel patients regarding a new diagnosis of anxiety or depression and how to initiate care in a way least likely to face resistance
  • How to manage the suicidal patient
  • Understanding difficult patients to achieve better outcomes
