Learning Objectives:

  1. Review appropriate historical questions for a complete and problem-focused shoulder examination.
  2. Identify physical examination results that help form a differential diagnosis
  3. Demonstrate an appropriate integrated examination of the shoulder.
  4. Interpret the results of a patient’s history, presentation, physical examination and testing to form a differential diagnosis of shoulder pain.

Dr. Thomas graduated from the Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine (VCOM) in Blacksburg, Virginia and then completed his residency in Internal Medicine/Pediatrics at Geisinger Medical Center in Danville, PA. Following the completion of his residency, Dr. Thomas returned to Blacksburg to complete a Sports Medicine Fellowship with VCOM. Dr. Thomas has spent time serving as the team physician for many local sports teams. Dr. Thomas currently practices at Carilion Family Medicine in Christiansburg, Virginia, He is board certified in pediatrics, internal medicine and sports medicine.

The Virginia Osteopathic Medical Association (VOMA) is accredited by the American Osteopathic Association to provide osteopathic continuing medical education for physicians. VOMA designates this program for a maximum of 1 AOA Category 1A CME credits and will report CME credits commensurate with the extent of the physician’s participation.
